This position is assigned the organizational title of Customer Service Representative (CSR) under the Contact Center Chief, Customer Service Center (CSC), of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration, Office of Community Care (OCC). The primary function of the Customer Service Representative is advising, counseling, reviewing applications and claims and responding to requests regarding business processes for all associated health benefit programs which are administered by the OCC Contact Center. This involves personal contacts with the public for the purposes of (1) advising and providing information on benefits and rights; (2) explaining pertinent legal provisions, regulations, and related administrative practices and their application to specific cases; and (3) assisting individuals in developing needed documents and evidence required, or in resolving errors, delays or other problems in obtaining benefits. The majority of the work involves providing customer service orally using a telephone and using a computer to research customer questions and transcribe the conversation or taking notes electronically.Duties include:
- Supports telephonic, written correspondence, live CHAT, and/or electronic contacts as the CSC’s mission dictates.
- Develops, examines, adjusts, reconsiders, recommends settlement of various types of claims, receives and processes requests for authorization of healthcare services, supplies and benefits.
- Furnishes routine information concerning rights and benefits with regard to assigned health benefit programs administered by the OCCPC under laws administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Works directly with Veterans, beneficiaries, providers and collection agencies in an effort to mitigate or resolve situations in which the Veteran or beneficiary has been placed in an adverse credit situation due to non-payment.
Promotion Potential: This is a career ladder position with promotion potential to GS-8. Current Denver, CO. GS Locality Pay Table. The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: 8 hour shift between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday – Friday will be established based upon the needs of the service line

· Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Works in a call center environment receiving inbound/outbound calls; Experience with the full range of capabilities, operating characteristics, and advance functions of a variety of office automation software, e.g., applications processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, etc.; Records new and/or updated information in computerized database(s) necessary for maintaining, routing and tracking correspondence.
· Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
· Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. you must possess a combination of successfully completed education and experience to meet the total experience requirements. (i.e. 6 months of specialized experience and 3 years of education above the high school level). NOTE: Only education beyond the second year can be used in combination with specialized experience to qualify for this grade.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting at a desk, working with computers daily. Some work may require walking in offices and similar areas for meetings. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. The work does not require any special physical effort.
