    Summary

    The purpose of this position is to provide management support services for the Office of Administrative Services in the areas of space, facilities, and other administrative functions.

    Who May Apply: Applicants must be CURRENT students in an accredited high school, college, professional; technical, vocational, trade school; or advanced degree program; or other qualifying education institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.

    Responsibilities

    Student Pathways Program: This is a Student Internship opportunity that provides students enrolled in a qualifying educational institution with paid opportunities to work in Federal agencies while completing their education. This position is part-time, but you may be able to work full-time if your class schedule allows. If this is your first appointment in the Federal service, your pay will be set at Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

    Upon successful completion of the program, students MAY be non-competitively converted to a term or permanent position within 120 days of completion of the degree/program requirements; however, conversion is not guaranteed. To be eligible for conversion, you must:

    - Successfully complete the academic course of study with a GPA of at least 2.5;
    - Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements;
    - Meet the minimum qualification requirements for the position; and
    - Maintain acceptable performance.

    As a Student Trainee (Management & Program Analyst), typical work assignments may include the following:

    • Provides administrative support for the Division's planning, development and execution of administrative programs for space planning, accountable property inventory and tracking, facility requests, parking, and transit subsidies.
    • Uses manual and automated techniques to track Division property, ensuring that data entered into the system is accurate and up-to-date and that paper files for accountable property are complete.
    • Prepares and processes standard, routine correspondence. Uses office automation software packages and equipment to type correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other documents, ensuring accuracy with regard to format, arrangement, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and distribution of copies.
    • Establishes and maintains a variety of office records and files. Updates and purges files. Researches files and reference materials for information. Receives and processes (i.e. open and date stamp) all incoming mail. Determines categories and priorities, routing correspondence to appropriate staff for consideration and action.
    • Receives visitors and assists telephone callers. Furnishes a wide range of information concerning functions and office procedures. Exercises discretion and judgment in deciding what information may be given out and to whom it may be given. Refers unusual requests to the appropriate staff.
    • Reads directives and instructional material pertaining to administrative practices and clerical procedures in order to be aware of new or revised procedures related to the preparation and processing of correspondence, forms, and reports; filing; mail procedures; and travel vouchers; etc.
