    Salary: $16.19 per hour (Step 01) to $21.04 per hour (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

    The USGS CALIFORNIA WATER SCIENCE CENTER, located in San Diego, CA is seeking an undergraduate level student to gain practical experience in setting up IT equipment, database software, and life cycle management.

    As a Student Trainee (IT Support) you will serve in a trainee capacity, performing routine and recurring development assignments to acquire knowledge and understanding of functions, principles, practices, and methods used in the area of IT Specialist.

    Duties include:

    --Installing, upgrading, and deploying Windows/Macintosh Operating Systems.

    --Setting up IT equipment for classrooms, meetings, and conferences.

    --Creating, updating, and finalizing customer Help Desk trouble tickets.

    --Updating IT assets using life cycle management tools.

    --Diagnosing and correcting basic hardware problems.

    --Installing, testing, and trouble shooting local and bureau-wide applications and software packages.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Average travel of 2 nights per month.
