The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This is an internship position as part of a work/study program. The work involves trainee duties at various organizations throughout Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida.

This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP) which is a formal training program.
Participants completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program.
Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations.
The participant will be performing increasingly advanced accounting duties to include performing costing activities for contracts, processing purchase request, and learning policies and procedures.
Accounting: Work may include budget line management, and provide support to multiple budget functions and, budget formulation and execution, budget administration and reviews, monthly cost variances, resources management, integrated operations budget planning, trending and analysis, financial reporting, and cost assessments. May assist in forecasting and trending techniques to evaluate budget execution performance and recommends possible solutions to improve planning and execution.
Occasional travel – Travel may be required for training or other work-related duties

- You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
- Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution.
- Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution.
- You must be at least 16 at the time of appointment.
- You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
- Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale.
- The anticipated start date for this appointment is January 22, 2019.
- You will be required to undergo a pre-employment background investigation.
- You must have the ability to complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements.
- As such applicants who indicate an estimated graduation date on or before May 14, 2019 may be disqualified from further consideration.

QualificationsInitial appointment to GS grade levels are determined by education level completed. You must complete the NASA supplemental questions to assist in determining your education level completed. Your education will be rated against the NASA developed qualifications standards listed below. Failure to answer the NASA supplemental questions may result in loss of consideration.
GS-7 (Starting salary $41,566): Accepted into a master’s or doctoral program or in the first year of a master’s or doctoral program.
Salary will be set at Step 1 from the applicable pay scale.
Basic Education Requirement: You must be accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled pursuing a master’s degree from an accredited college/university with a major study in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.

Interns may work full-time (traditional) or part-time (non-traditional) schedules. (Flexible hours and days depending on the student academic schedule.) The Supervisor and Intern will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work rotations. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study. The intern may work full-time during summer and school breaks.
Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.
You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.

These positions are in the excepted service and are being filled under the Pathway’s Internship Program. Appointments may be non-competitively converted from the Pathways Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all educational requirements for that position are met and there is an available position.
However, conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed. If converted, upon completion of the program, there may be promotion potential up to a GS-12.
Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided they:
Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and maintain acceptable performance.
The payment of relocation expenses is not authorized.
