The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This is an internship position as part of a work/study program. The work involves trainee duties at various organizations throughout Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida.

Participants completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program.
Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations.
The participant as an Network and Information Security Specialist will perform basic developmental work in Computer Networks and Information Assurance training and assisting in new and/or existing Information Technology projects.
Occasional travel – Travel may be required for training or other work-related duties
Conditions of Employment
- You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
- Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution.
- Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution.
- You must be at least 16 at the time of appointment.
- You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
- Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale.
- The anticipated start date for this appointment is January 22, 2019.
- You will be required to undergo a pre-employment background investigation.
- You must have the ability to complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements.
- As such applicants who indicate an estimated graduation date on or before May 14, 2019 may be disqualified from further consideration.
- Occasional travel may be required.
QualificationsInitial appointment to GS grade levels are determined by education level completed. You must complete the NASA supplemental questions to assist in determining your education level completed. Your education will be rated against the NASA developed qualifications standards listed below.
GS-5 (Starting salary $33,556): Completion of two academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree (The two academic years are the equivalent of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours).
Salary will be set at Step 1 from the applicable pay scale.
Basic Education Requirement: Applicant must be accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled pursing a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provides a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
The following major(s) are preferred: Computer Science & Cybersecurity.

Students may be placed in KSC organizations such as the Information Technology and Communications Services (IT) organization.
As similar vacancies are identified, additional selections may be made.
Interns may work full-time (traditional) or part-time (non-traditional) schedules. (Flexible hours and days depending on the student academic schedule.) The Supervisor and Intern will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work rotations. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study. The intern may work full-time during summer and school breaks.
Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.
You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.
These positions are in the excepted service and are being filled under the Pathway’s Internship Program. Appointments may be non-competitively converted from the Pathways Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all educational requirements for that position are met and there is an available position.
However, conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed. If converted, upon completion of the program, there may be promotion potential up to a GS-12.
Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided they:
Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and maintain acceptable performance.
