  • Duties


    This position is in the Office of Management and Policy, Human Capital Division, in HHS/OIG. The Office of Management and Policy (OMP) formulates and executes the OIG budget; coordinates development of the OIG long-range strategic plan and oversees OIG performance measurement and reporting systems; establish OIG wide administrative policies and procedures; and provides OIG with information technology (IT), human capital and administrative support services.

    The primary responsibility of a Student Trainee (Human Resources Assistant) is to continue learning and gaining experience as it relates to Human Resources through job and classroom training. The student will assist in assignments that are developmental and recurring in nature including functions such as the following at the GS-4 grade level:

    • Code and review SF-52s for completion and accuracy.
    • Enter and change data in the EHCM personnel/payroll system.
    • Process employee requests for changes, such as in health or life insurance coverage.
    • Assembles and maintains official personnel folders (eOPF).
    • Perform duties such as determining benefits, leave, and retirement eligibility for competitive service appointments and evaluating and making basic recommendations regarding certain personnel-related actions.
    • Resolve recurring problems, and assist in resolving payroll issues.
    • Respond to inquiries questions employees or pending actions.
    • Provide basic program information and support regarding standard processing procedures and requirements related to staffing, recruitment, classification and benefits.
