    Summary

     If selected for this position, you will serve as a Student Trainee (General Engineer) with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s Office of Pipeline Safety in Houston, TX. This is an internship position under the Pathways Program.

    Responsibilities

    As a Student Trainee - General Engineer, you will perform the following duties:

    • Assist in the conducting safety program reviews and provides input to engineering analyses and evaluations of pipeline safety regulatory Assists in conducting field surveys and investigations to determine existing condition of facilities for compliance with federal regulations requirements.
    • Assist higher level engineers in conducting safety regulatory compliance inspections, investigations and evaluations by conducting regulatory compliance inspections, investigations and evaluations by conducting
    • Assist reviewing safety data reports and summarizing findings. Participates in on-site inspection of pipelines.
    • Assist in the conduct of studies and provision of engineering analyses of pipeline safety issues.

    The idea candidate is an individual who is self-motivated and demonstrates a desire to learn and excel in a working environment.  This person should have a willingness to explore and follow best practices both in an office environment and as a field engineer.  This person should have excellent analytical, quantitative, problem-solving skills and should have strong organizational and planning skills.  Candidate should possess outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills which consists of an ability to interact effectively with many levels of staff and to express ideas articulately, verbally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.  A strong commitment to advance PHMSA’s Safety mission and values to the community at large is a must.
