    Duties for the GS-5 Management Assistant (OA):

    The Office of the Division Counsel/Associate Chief Counsel (Criminal Tax) provides expert, onsite legal advice and maintains an integrated partnership with Criminal Investigation to accomplish its mission.

    WHAT DOES A MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT DO? As a Management Assistant, you will gain experience with computer systems and databases - entering, retrieving, and organizing information and documents, as well as assisting with all support activities performed in a legal office.

    WHAT IS THE PATHWAYS PROGRAM? The Treasury's Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal government.

    Following the completion of program requirements, selectees may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment. All conversion requirements will be identified in the Participant Agreement. Program requirements include, but are not limited to:

    • Successful completion of at least 1-year of continuous service;
    • Completion of at least 40 hours of interactive training;
    • Demonstration of successful job performance; and
    • Meeting the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate may be converted.

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-05 level. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position.

    • Create and/or maintain and archives various records of organizational and operational charts, function statements, and staff levels. Maintain records of management analysis data and reports, provide standard explanation of procedures and requirements, identify clear errors in data, and compile management data into prescribed formats.
    • Recognize and extract pertinent information from various sources (e.g., manual logs and/or software programs); prepare, verify, and maintain statistical data relating to legal case workload and staffing for historical and forecasting analysis purposes, correct obvious mathematical errors, and assist the staff in preparing regular and ad hoc studies for assigned office.
    • Prepare, produce, assemble, and scan a variety of written documents utilizing various software applications in support of litigation, case management and other administrative functions. Present correspondence for review in proper format and grammar.
    • Receive visitors and telephone calls. Receive and reviews mail. Arrange meetings including finding mutually satisfactory times, reserving meeting rooms, notifying participants and preparing reports when requested.  Inputs travel authorization and reimbursement into a travel system.
    • Answer inquiries from audit managers, program managers, and personnel concerning legal case status and basic program review procedures.
