    Summary

    The position is located in the Medical Services Department within the Division of Clinical Services at Crownpoint Service Unit. The purpose of the position is to serve as a training position performing a variety of developmental assignments intended to increase or further the knowledge skills, and abilities in the incumbent's area of expertise as a practicing Nurse Practitioner. The position is a temporary one year program.

    Responsibilities

    Direct Clinical Duties:

    • Provides preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic health service to a broad-spectrum of patients and family members under the general supervision of the supervisor.
    • Secures a health and development history from the patient or parent; and performs a physical exam; records findings and makes critical evaluations.
    • Performs or requests special screening and developmental tests, laboratory tests and interprets the results.
    • Makes decisions concerning medical care needs of patients with other health care providers.
    • Provides direct medical care in the presence of illness or disability in order to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce distress and enhance coping ability.
    • Provides full range of emergency services or crisis intervention including life-saving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient sufficiently to transport to another facility.
    • Evaluates the medical aspects of treatment plans periodically recognizing the need for reassessment by other health professionals as appropriate.
    • Provides medical care and preventative services to health individuals, including guidance in nutrition, common illness, accidents, child growth and development and child rearing.
    • Participates in Residency meetings, didactic sessions, and skills labs.
    • Provides in-service to medical staff, community health educators, students, and support staff.
    • Completes a required quality improvement project approved by the Residency Director and presents results to the Medical Services Department.
