Masters' in business (MBA) or Public Administration (MPA) may be accepted if at least two (2) healthcare courses are taken before completion of the degree.Responsibilities
GRADUATE HEALTHCARE TRAINING PROGRAM (GHATP)/RECENT GRADUATE. The GHATP, provides 12-month of in-hospital experience for students who recently received a Master's degree in hospital administration (MHA) (MSHA), public health administration (MPH), or other healthcare administration/management degree recognized by the Department of Education. Masters' in business (MBA) or Public Administration (MPA) may be accepted if at least two (2) healthcare courses are taken before completion of the degree.
The recent graduate program provides the agency with the opportunity to graduate in a one-year development program. Agencies may noncompetitively convert participant who successfully completes the program to a term or permanent competitive service position. This appointment does not guarantee a placement to a permanent position.
The GHATP Program is a 12-month experience under the preceptorship of the Medical Center Director. The 12-montyh cycle for the program is from during the experience, the recent graduate will:
-Complete rotations through various components of the health system offering access to academically-affiliated medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, domiciliary, long-term care services, electronic health record system, research centers, telehealth programs, and/or external rotations (such as Veterans Benefits Administration, or a neighboring non-VA health care facility)
.-Complete a diverse range of management tasks and projects in operations management, project management, finance management, quality management, information systems management, medical management, human resources management and research administration.
-Reports directly to, and has a close working relationship with the Director and Associate Director of the Healthcare System
.-Will work closely with the other officials in the healthcare system and the senior leadership team.-Will have the opportunity to attend senior management and network executive board meetings, morning reports, and conferences
-Performs analysis of areas of management including planning, organizing, implementing, coordinating, controlling, evaluating, educating, and improving medical, administrative and support operations of the healthcare system
.-Assist in the development of policies and departmental program goals and objectives
.-Attend budget review meetings, committee meetings and report how decisions made during those meetings impact operations
.-Work with data to develop health-planning strategies and assess priorities.
-Make on-site visits and observe studies relating to the planning problems in healthcare management.
-Attend committee meetings such as Leadership Council, Medical Executive Council, Labor Forums, or various other committee meetings of interest.-Participate in "in-Classroom" training courses and seminars both within and outside the VA System.
-Work with personnel matters as discipline, reward and recognition, reassignment, staff adjustments and realignments, labor/management relations, affirmative employment, alternative dispute resolutions, and grievances
.-Assist with developing and coordinating professional service budgets and the distribution of resources to the various clinical services.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, 1st Shift.
