    Reclamation is seeking an Intern not-to-exceed looking for an opportunity to be a Student Trainee (Biological Sciences). Make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

    Responsibilities

    Performs a full range of standardized support duties and limited technical duties in support of natural resource management and wildlife management which may include:

    • Making observations, monitoring, and recording data relating to habitat improvement projects in river basins containing salmon and steelhead.
    • Assisting in the radio tracking of juvenile salmon in the Watershed.
    • Entering and retrieving data from databases, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Working with resource specialists to salvage (shock and move) fish from isolated channels in preparation for habitat construction activities.

    This is a temporary student internship opportunity under the Pathways Program. The major objective of the Pathways Program is to employ students, giving them a chance to work in a Federal agency and resume or continue their education without interruption caused by financial pressure. Students appointed may work part-time while school is in session and full-time (depending upon the needs of the agency) when students are on a vacation period or whenever the school is officially closed.

    This is a temporary position, with a not-to-exceed date. When the not-to-exceed date is reached or whenever services are no longer needed, the selectee will be terminated from Federal service. The not-to-exceed date may be extended.

    The selected student will be appointed at the GS-04 ($14.30 per hour) Federal pay grade level, which is determined by meeting the qualification requirements.

    This position is located with the Bureau of Reclamation, Pacific Northwest Region, Columbia/Snake Salmon Recovery Office with a duty location of La Grande, Oregon. For more information about location visit:  http://www.usbr.gov/pn/about/hr/area-information.html
