    Join the staff of the Bureau of Reclamation as a Student Trainee (Business & Industry).

    This position is located with the Bureau of Reclamation, Klamath Basin Area Office, Resource Management Division in Klamath Falls, OR. You must be able to report to this location for duty no later than two weeks from the date of tentative offer in order to be eligible for this job opportunity.     Serves as a Student Trainee (Business & Industry).

    Performs basic developmental assignments providing support and assistance in water and land operations. Performs all or most of the following:
    -Operates a personal computer utilizing various software packages to accomplish word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets and databases.
    -Serves as public contact for telephone and walk-in customers to answer routine questions and concerns.
    -Assists higher graded specialists in support of lands and water acquisition and management.
    -Drafts routine non-complex land-related documents (e.g., easements, rights-of-way, leases, permits, letters of consent, memoranda, lease advertisements, bid opening and other documents).
    -Performs routine support tasks to become familiar with local environmental issues related to water availability and use, conservation requirements, endangered species, fish and wildlife habitats, irrigation needs, municipal use, tribal and public concerns.
    -Maintains geodatabase features from all types of data sources by compiling various data sets and creating geospatial elements relative to lands.

    This is a temporary student internship opportunity under the Pathways Program. The major objective of the Pathways Program is to employ students, giving them a chance to work in a Federal agency and resume or continue their education without interruption caused by financial pressure. Students appointed may work part-time while school is in session and full-time (depending upon the needs of the agency) when students are on a vacation period or whenever the school is officially closed.

    Relocation: Travel and relocation expenses are not authorized and are the responsibility of the selectee.

    Telework: Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval. This is not a virtual position.

    Employment Conditions:
    -This is a temporary position with a not-to-exceed date. When the not-to-exceed date is reached or whenever services are no longer needed, the selectee will be terminated from Federal service. Position may be extended depending on management’s need, providing student program requirements continue to be met.
    -The duration of a Pathways appointment is a trial period.
    -Successful adjudication of personnel security investigation required.
    -All Federal employees are required by PL 104-134 to have federal payments made by direct deposit.
    -A mandatory participant agreement that spells out the requirements of the program, including an anticipated date for completing educational requirements is required.

    How You Will Be Evaluated

    You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

    Human Resources (HR) will review resumes and transcript(s) to ensure applicants meet the basic qualification requirements. We will evaluate each applicant who meets the basic qualifications on the information provided in the assessment questionnaire. The assessment questionnaire will take approximately 15 minutes.

    The duties of the position align with the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) required to perform the duties of the position.

    1. Basic knowledge of realty and land management principles and instruments, the terminology inherent in real estate and land management transactions, and established procedures (i.e. Federal realty and land management) to assist Water and Lands Specialists in completing transactions.
    2. Basic knowledge of concepts, principles, and methods of digital geospatial data management, established discipline standards, and geographic and computer science disciplines to assist GIS Specialist in completing water and land transactions.
    3. Knowledge of and ability to use personal computer and other related software, peripherals, and other technical tools to perform data entry and data retrieval; produce spreadsheets etc; and maintain databases via appropriate measures.
    4. Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing with a variety of contacts, in order to draft routine memos and correspondence; explain procedures related to water and land operations; and compile recurring reports by researching information.
